Maria is the Spanish Speaking Services Coordinator at Durham County Library. She is excited to be part of the dynamic outreach services team that strives to bring valuable resources to our diverse community. From an early age, Maria developed a passion for books and learning new languages. She earned her B.A in German from the University of Florida and her M.S in Library Science from UNC-CH. During her graduate studies, Maria worked as the Bilingual Archival Assistant for the New Roots/ Nuevas Raíces Latino Oral History Initiative, a digital repository of first-hand narratives detailing the immigrant experience across North Carolina. After graduating, Maria brought her love of reading to K-5 students as a school librarian for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools district. She looks forward to establishing new programs that will benefit the Spanish speaking community in Durham and connect them to the many resources available through the Durham County Library.
